TCCA TO FAA (CANADIAN TO US)
Certification Details
Identification:
I will need to verify your identity prior to issuing the new FAA pilot certificate and type rating (if applicable). Normally this is accomplished by having you email me your drivers license or passport in color.
Both sides of the DL need to be sent. If the picture doesn’t look like you due to growing a beard, shaving off a beard, completely different hair style, fuzzy picture, etc., I will probably need something more accurate so be prepared to have a new picture taken if it comes to that.
IACRA:
Currently IACRA does not support Canadian conversion applications. You will need to submit your application to me on paper. If you have access to a fillable PDF FAA Form 8710-1 you may fill it out, print, sign, scan, and email to me. If you have questions on how to fill it out, let me know and I can help you with it. Normally, it works best if I fill it out and send it to you for signature.

Documentation:
Photocopies of the following documentation will be required in order to process the FAA certificate:
- Canadian issued pilot certificate that are to be converted to US certificates
- Valid Canadian Government issued Drivers License and/or Passport
- Current US medical (3rd class minimum)
- Canadian Conversion AKTR
- Verification letter of foreign pilot certificate issued by AFB-720 (Applied for through IACRA)
- Logbooks to validate flight times as necessary for certificate issuance
- For US ATP, must provide an ATP-CTP course graduation certificate
Face to Face Contact:
The final step is to actually make contact with you to validate your identity. I normally do this with FaceTime however, any means available to you is acceptable. I also have a Zoom account that works well.
I highly recommend contacting me as early as possible to discuss exactly what is needed so the process moves forward efficiently and effectively.
Summary
I’m sure you will still have questions so please do not hesitate to contact me at any time for clarification! Please understand the process between the US FAA and TCCA can be lengthy. It is not uncommon to require extensions on the temporary certificate I will issue. Patience is required for this process. Once the temporary certificate is issued, it is good for 120 days and you must monitor the expiration date to make sure it doesn’t expire while you are attempting to exercise the privileges of the certificate. You can contact me and I will arraign the re-issuance of an extension.
PPL ISSUED BASED ON FOREIGN PILOT CERTIFICATE

Both sides of the ID need to be sent. If the picture doesn’t look like you due to growing a beard, shaving off a beard, completely different hair style, fuzzy picture, etc., I will probably need something more accurate so be prepared to have a new picture taken if it comes to that.
IACRA:
Submit your application in IACRA. You will not sign the application until I verify your identity. After you sign, I can then process the application and issue the certificate. Make sure you have your username and password for IACRA when we do the face-to-face meeting either in person or on FaceTime, Zoom, etc. You will be need these to sign your application once I have verified your identity in IACRA. If you need assistance filling out your application, call me, I can help walk you through it.

- Current, valid, non-expired, non-suspended foreign issued pilot certificate at the PPL level or higher.
- Valid unexpired foreign issued medical equivalent to a US 3rd class medical or higher.
- Verification letter of foreign pilot certificate issued by AFS-760 – This can be submitted on IACRA.
- If you have instrument privileges in your home country and you want to maintain them here, you must have an AKTR for IFP passed.

Remember as well, you are operating under US Part 61 and 91 flight rules. You will most likely need to receive a Flight Review with a US Certified Flight Instructor prior to exercising the privileges of the US certificate.
